Ship Management & Innovation at its best.
Project Forward received the Maritime2020 Summit Award for The Most Sustainable Project, “awarded for a project that stood out for its environmentally conscious techniques and processes that ensure sustainability in the maritime industry.”
Arista Shipping S.A., founded in 2007 in Greece, is a global provider of shipping transportation services and specializes in managing the worldwide ocean transportation of dry bulk cargoes, including commodities such as iron ore, coal, grain, salt, alumina and other minor bulk cargoes. Arista actively seeks to protect the environment with our disruptive Project Forward. We adhere to what we promote and encourage others to follow our practices.
Arista, through Forward Ships, is leading Project Forward, a Joint Development Project together with globally established industry leaders aiming to combat global ship emissions in the most effective manner. Conceived in 2013 and presented in 2015, Project Forward identified ahead of the industry the potential of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel, and engaged in an extensive research and development program which arrived at a technically reliable and commercially feasible design of a vessel which apart from its extremely low environmental footprint, reduces the cost of transportation at sea, modernizing the shipping industry and defining the new standard of vessel for the immediate future.
Since 2013, Arista has been joined in its efforts by a prestigious group of industry leaders consisting of ABS (American Bureau of Shipping, one of the world’s leading ship classification societies), Deltamarin (a ship design, offshore engineering and construction group operating in the marine and offshore industries worldwide), GTT (Gaztransport & Technigaz, an engineering company specialised in the design of membrane containment systems for the maritime transportation and storage of liquefied gas), Wärtsilä (a Finnish corporation which manufactures and services power sources and other equipment in the marine and energy markets) and Royal Dutch Shell plc, commonly known as Shell.
Forward Ships aims to bring to the market the research and development work that was carried out under Project Forward. The vessels of Forward Ships comply with and exceed all known, applicable, and forthcoming environmental regulations, including IMO’s global Marpol Annex VI SOx emission levels of 0.5% sulphur cap effective on January 1st, 2020 and exceed the most stringent Energy Efficiency Design Index 2025 standards and emission levels and meet IMO's 2050 GHG emission targets already today. Forward Ships' solutions, proprietary concepts and designs including its patented machinery arrangement, are applicable to tankers and container ships.
